Central
College 4th St. Dormitory |
|
|
This multi-dwelling
facility was constructed with steel framing members, and sheeted
with OSB plywood. When surveying their insulation options, the architects
and facility management at Central College in Pella, IA decided that
Icynene® provided an excellent solution to some challenging applications.
The main entry consists of a vaulted area, which would have been
difficult to insulate, but Icynene® accomodated the design and other
construction materials beautifully. Also, because of Icynene's® ability
to cut energy costs up to 50%, facility managers at Central anticipate
a pay-back of approx. 5-7 years on the initial cost of the insulation. |

Pella
Health & Fitness |
| |
This facility
is a physical therapy and fitness
complex located in Pella, IA. The main room
has 21' ceilings including vaults and numerous dormers. This building houses
an aqua-therapy
pool that creates large amounts of water vapor. To ensure that the humidity
in the building was dealt with properly, the owners insulated the building
with Icynene® to prevent the humidity from migrating into the wall cavities.
They also
installed a fresh-air mechanical ventilation system to help regulate the indoor
environment. The facility boasts low energy bills and excellent indoor air
quality due to the use of Icynene® and mechanical ventilation. |

Ehresman
Residence |
|
|
This home
was beautifully designed with numerous angled walls, vaulted ceilings,
dormers, knee walls, and large windows. It would have been a challenging
and time-consuming effort to cut and fit fiberglass insulation
into the 28' vaulted great room shown. When all is said and done,
this home will achieve a .05Nach - .15Nach (Natural Air Changes/Hour)
and the project took just 2.5 days from prep to clean-up. With
fiberglass this complex house would have scored .6Nach or worse.
Fiberglass would have provided no control over moisture movement
or air movement into or out of the wall cavities and house. This
would likely have created a mold problem over the course of time. |

Vander Ecken Residence |
| |
This
home was built in Knoxville, IA in the Spring of
2000. The family decided to use the
Icynene Insulation System® in their home for its "air-sealing"
ability, its positive effect on indoor air quality, and its
ability to prohibit mold
growth.
Some members of the family have a history of asthma, but they've
reported to us that the
Icynene
Insulation
System®,
coupled with
the fresh air mechanical ventilation system installed in the home
has improved their respitory health and reduced their asthma
symptoms
They've also reported
to us that their home is easy to heat and cool evenly, even with
a winter-season set-point of 67degrees and a summer time set-point
of 78 degrees. This is possible because Icynene® has
eliminated convective
looping in their wall cavities, making their home easy
to condition, floor-to-floor and wall-to-wall.
